The Philippines is home to approximately 300 volcanoes, with 24 categorized as active. According to PHIVOLCS (Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology), this high volcanic activity is attributed to the country’s location in the Pacific Ring of Fire, where the Philippine Sea Plate and the Eurasian Plate converge. The interaction of these tectonic plates results in subduction beneath the Philippine archipelago, creating deep trenches along its east and west seaboards.
Crater lakes are bodies of water that are formed in a volcanic crater often made up of acidic content while others are of fresh water coming from precipitation, groundwater or melted ice. In no particular order, here are the most beautiful crater lakes in the Philippines.
Nothing much changed on the trails of Mt. Talinis. The vegetation was still thick. There is an ample amount of water supply. The Twin Falls are still astoundingly beautiful. And Lake Nailig couldn’t have been more alluringly serene. Truly, first love never die. While I was silently trailing behind the pack, I was actually recalling the music played by Jet while battling with ascents.
