For the last two years, I’ve been eager to break free from the endless rat race of paperwork, deadlines, and juggling adulting responsibilities. So, when Sheila from Adrenaline Romance made an invitation to join their Blogger’s Climb in Poog, I enthusiastically said, “Yes!” Obviously, it’s a chance to try something new and exciting—spicing up my otherwise sedentary lifestyle.
I initially thought climbing Poog Crag would be a tough test of my skills and bravery—just another hardcore experience. But beyond the thrill, Poog Crag has taught me valuable lessons that I think will stick with me forever.
10 Lessons Learned from Rock Climbing Poog Crag

1. You are your own limit.
It’s all about mindset; you control your own limits. If you believe you can’t do something, chances are you won’t. The same applies to climbing Poog Crag. But if you focus on conquering and reaching your goal, there’s a good chance you’ll make it happen! So, if you aim to reach that Poog Crag anchor, just keep pushing forward, even when it feels tough and almost impossible!

2. Keep grounded.
Never underestimate a rock, especially at Poog Crag. What seems easy can be surprisingly tough. Watching others climb may make it seem simple, but once it’s your turn, you might regret commenting on their efforts.

3. Trust your comrades—the belayer, most especially.
Many folks shy away from rock climbing at Poog Crag due to fears of falling or getting hurt. But the key lesson from rock climbing is trust. You’ve got to have faith in the people you’re with, especially the one holding the rope (belayer). Trust makes rock climbing at Poog Crag a successful and fulfilling experience.

4. But believe in yourself. No need to listen to unsolicited advice.
It’s wise to seek advice and do some research before taking on challenges like Poog Crag. Yet, in the end, you’re the captain of your own ship. You have to make the decisions and navigate the obstacles. While others may offer good suggestions, it’s ultimately your choice whether to heed them. What works for others may not work for you, so if you feel it’s the right time to climb, embark on a memorable adventure to Poog Crag!

5. Maximize your advantage.
Being short may seem like a clear drawback when climbing Poog Crag, and I’m also pretty fluffy, haha. But that doesn’t mean I can’t do it. I just need to be creative and find holds and ledges that match my height. It’s all about using my uniqueness to overcome challenges.

6. Hold on.
Holding onto uncertain things while climbing Poog Crag can be painful, even making you bleed. Yet, if success is what you seek, you must endure and not let go. Typically, after the toughest part, the path becomes easier towards your goal. Just hold on for a bit longer—it’ll be worth it.

7. Begin with the end in mind.
“I can do this. I will get there. I can do this. I can do this!” Repeat it until it sticks, until it’s etched in your mind. Having a mantra while climbing helps keep you focused on your goal and prevents you from falling short.

8. Strategize before you attack.
To conquer Poog Crag, plan your moves before the climb. Think ahead, figure out your next steps, and determine the best positions for rock climbing success.

9. It is never a sin to fall, cry, get frustrated, and fail.
It’s absolutely fine to fall, cry, feel frustrated, and even experience failure—it’s a natural part of life, just like climbing Poog Crag. These moments don’t define us but contribute to our growth. Facing challenges, whether in daily life or scaling the heights of Poog Crag, helps us become stronger and more resilient. Each stumble teaches us valuable lessons, every tear reflects our emotions, and every failure is a step toward success, both on the rock and in life. Embracing these experiences is key to personal development, transforming setbacks into opportunities for progress. Remember, in every fall, there’s an opportunity to discover the strength needed to stand even taller, whether it’s on solid ground or at the summit of Poog Crag.

10. But remember to come back stronger.
Sometimes, your first try at climbing Poog Crag might not work out. The real challenge is deciding to come back stronger. Do you give it another shot or let frustration take over? The decision to return and confront your challenges is always in your hands.
