What will you do if you are given two weeks of paid vacation? Where will you go? Back when I started traveling, this has always been my favorite time of the year – a time to explore uncharted places, try new dishes, meet new friends, tick off activities from the bucket list, discover oneself, and so on. It is a time that I always look forward for. The experiences and stories were one for the books. And the encounters forged lasted even more because of the shared adventures.
A Yellow Lake in Cebu? Sounds crazy right? This was also our initial reaction upon hearing those words from the locals whom we interacted during our short trip around Cebu. But well, blessed are the curious for they will have adventures. From Lake Kadamon, we took an uphill hike going to a seemingly barren area. The environment was rather peculiar. The place was so humid. The trees and plants growing looked really dry. And the soil was colored… yellow! No wonder, the locals described it as “magical”. We followed the trails going to an open area and saw the Yellow Lake that they were talking about.
Walking has brought me to a thousand different places – even if I’ve been trailing the same road every day. No, this ain’t astral projection, nor was I summoned by Dr. Strange. There’s just something with walking that brings one a step forward to a different dimension far noticed by commuting passengers. Today, it brought me somewhere in between nostalgia and regret.
Our hike to Lake Bensis (fondly called as Pingganon Lake) began with curiosity. What’s in there? What’s on top of that mountain? What awaits for us on the other side? Had it not been for curiosity, many discoveries and explorations wouldn’t have come to fruition. And without curious minds who ask questions and defy odds, we would have to continue believing the truths that have been long deceiving us.
