Talisay City is one of the many living proofs that Cebu has been the center of commerce and trade ages before the Spaniards’ arrival. From being a mere fishing village, it now hosts a lot of industries—both local and international.

Moreover, it has started making its name because of its unique features like lechon and fresh seafood like “Kinilaw sa Tangke”. But what is unknown to many, including myself, is that Talisay is more than just the beach and fishport that it has been known for.

Igutan Cave and Waterfalls

Several kilometers away from the busy highway of Talisay is a serene paradise where mountains of green lushes hide an intricate system of rivers, caves, and waterfalls; one of which is the Igutan Cave and waterfalls. This beholding sight is yet another gem that needs to be maintained and duly taken care of here in Talisay City.

Upon the drop-off station of Igutan Cave, one has to pass a hanging bridge and trek uphill before reaching the vicinity of Barrio Igutan where the cave and waterfalls are located. Since it has been under the premise of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the Local Government Unit, you have to pay P30.00 for the entrance fee—which already includes flashlight rent and a tour guide.

Brace yourself because you also have to prepare to crawl and climb in order to avoid being hit by the different stalactite formations inside Igutan Cave. But all struggles are worth it as at the end of the cave comes rushing a cascade that will cool down those stress levels.

If you think Igutan Cave is the only place lurking behind Talisay City, you’re definitely wrong! Two-hundred fifty steps above the said site is a chapel that sits on top of the hill that provides a mesmerizing view of the locale.

Jaclupan Dam and Horse Ranch

Since we finished the Igutan Cave activity within a few hours, by afternoon, the three of us decided to go to a nearby spot—which was actually suggested by a barbecue vendor: a horse ranch! We didn’t exactly know where it was located but because of the help of the locals, we were able to find more than just the horse ranch!
